Expository Bible Verse Review:
Philippians 2:12-13
12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Let’s review this section first, even when not in the presence of a preacher or with the body of Christ (The Church) on Sunday, at all-times continue to persevere in your salvation with utmost honor, respect, love, awe of the great sacrifice which was made for you on the cross and the divine grace given to a unworthy wretch.
13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
Therefore, in verse 12 we are to persevere in our salvation through the sanctification by the Holy Spirit. Some may say we have free will, but here it is stating that it is not you who is truly working out your salvation to persevere to the end, but it is the work of our Sovereign God. Who is working in us through His Holy Spirit bending our will to His will, developing a distaste for the things of this world and a hunger for Holiness, killing sin and being more like Christ which brings God not only glory but pleasure.
