Reaching Children for Jesus: Iquitos, Peru

In 2000 Marta Noguera developed a vision called "Alcanzando Ninos Para Jesus" in the Amazon City of Iquitos, Peru, she then partnered with Jonathan Roiz a long time friend who together have conducted missions in several nations such as Guatemala, joining the board of directors of the Hope Movement, and together they made a vow to God and the people of Iquitos to fulfill the call to ignite a movement of united people together as one to open the windows of Heaven to rain down the presence of God upon the people of Peru, shaking His people from their comfort zone, answering the call to be the ripple that forms a flood of hope, flowing through the streets like a mighty river, transforming cities into havens of hope..

Since 2008 the program has reached over 800 children in several communities throughout Iquitos. Through donations by Marta, individuals, and churches the program has been able to provide uniforms, shoes, education, counseling, physical nourishment, and spiritual guidance to children and families, with a vision to expand to bring lasting transformation to Iquitos and the nation of Peru.

Located in the Amazon city of Iquitos, Peru our Reaching Children for Jesus program is one of the only outreach programs in Iquitos, Peru, providing weekly nutritious meals to the most vulnerable of children in the community, children who most days live on less than a piece of bread a day, and spend their time in the streets begging and searching for food for their families. Children live in wooden huts on stilts located above the Amazon River and are transported from their home to our center by canoe. A nutritious meal is essential for survival and development. In attending the program the Hope Movement does not just provide physical nourishment, but through education and counseling we provide spiritual and emotional nourishment to guide children, heal their inner wounds, and inspire them to pursue their life’s purpose, understanding that poverty is not their destiny, it is only an obstacle to overcome to make their dreams into a reality.

Feeding Center

Every month over 1,052 meals were provided to over 263 youth enrolled in our Reaching Children for Jesus program. We focused on not only feeding the children physically but also emotionally and spiritually, for we long to see their dignity and self-esteem restored. In order the break the cycle of poverty and hunger, we must change the mind-set of those in need of assistance. It is important for them not to develop a mentality of dependence, but an understanding that assistance is a guide for them to escape the bondage of poverty, that poverty is not their destiny, it is only an obstacle to overcome to make their dreams into a reality.

Education and Counseling

Our vision is to form a new generation of transformation by reaching out to youth searching for guidance. Youth attended our weekly one-on-one and group education and counseling sessions which are conducted by our counselors and teachers. Youth received non-formal education in a variety of subjects and were able to openly discuss their concerns and confusion about life issues and discuss their feelings, internal issues, addictions, hopes and dreams, opening the doors for healing. Courses and sessions focus on concerns faced by all youth including family drama and abandonment, self-esteem, relationships, health, spirituality, and finding your life’s purpose.  Through counseling sessions youth received essential tools to live a healthy and stable life, becoming leaders and positive role models in the community.

  • You are The Hope Movement, we are a team in the work of God, we can not fulfill our calling without you. Just as our calling is to go and work in the mission field to transform lives, you have a profound calling to give to help sustain the work being accomplished.

As the word of God has directed us in 2 Corinthians 9, "Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
