Haven of Hope - Guatemala
Take a journey through the streets of Latin America, learn about the lives of our children who are suffering from poverty, abuse, dysfunctional families, and exploitation, see life through their tear filled eyes. Witness miracles in the making as you see a light shining from the distance, a lighthouse in the midst of the raging sea. Let the light guide you to the Asilo de Esperanza “Haven of Hope” center.
Walk through its doors to behold a place of hope, and meet those who work in our center providing daily meals to relieve the hunger pains of a child. A place for children to call home, giving them the opportunity to experience a stable family atmosphere. Before your very eyes you will witness pain transformed into peace, and the chains of oppression broken through rehabilitation/ counseling programs. Discover the lives of children and families being changed from darkness to light as they gain knowledge in our education institute, and Hope Movement Chapters, preparing our future leaders for the responsibility of bringing social, spiritual, and economic transformation.
Pastor Neri Flores, his wife Betty, and 3 children Ivett, Johanna, and Josue worked as Pastors and Missionaries with a deep vision to bring a transformation to their beloved nation. For over 30 years Pastor Neri started churches, traveled throughout Central America sharing a message of love and hope, and worked in the mission field helping the poor, abused, and forgotten. Pastor Neri while pastoring a church in Escuintla, started a small feeding/ education center for local children. In 1994 a young boy by the name of Jonathan Roiz came to Guatemala to assist Pastor Neri in the feeding center, and to conduct mission activities throughout Escuintla. Jonathan returned to the United States, and from that moment was never the same again for he understood that God was calling him to return to Guatemala to one day open a Haven of Hope Center and to help Pastor Neri make his vision into a reality.
Years passed and Jonathan wrote Pastor Neri many times, but none of his letters arrived. During that time, support decreased and Pastor Neri was forced to close the feeding center, breaking his heart. Finally in 2003, Jonathan's final letter arrived and reconnected this once young boy who now is a young man with his long time friend Pastor Neri. They immediately began to share their feelings, and visions, opening their eyes to see that God has destined this moment for them to reunite as friends, family, and partners to become the hands of God to fulfill the deep calling to ignite a movement of hope throughout Guatemala, transforming cities into havens of hope.
